|
Hi Guys,
I am in the process of getting my 2B license and hence familiarizing myself about the motorbiking scene in Singapore.
So far I have been thinking of getting either a WR2 or a KTM200 as those are the biggest bikes available for 2B. Can you guys share the pros and cons of these two.
Additionally, I want to know what kind of money I should expect to dish out. I have seen WR2s as lot as $600 or even as high as $3K+, and KTMs ranging between 2.7k and 5k+. And as I have heard KTM's are more expensive to maintain, but I was looking at the parts list and some KTM parts were actually cheaper than the WR2's equivalent.
Additionally how does the validity of the COE come into play? As I know the longer the COE is valid the more expensive it will be. To get a better idea (i'm not expecting exact numbers) how much would 1 year of COE be worth?
Example if for the same bike COE is valid till 2012 how much would it be as opposed to with COE till 2013 etc?
Thanks guys! And I look forward to getting to know you guys more once I get my bike, or even when I reach the point of making a purchase decision!
Cheers!

Thanks for those links! I was posting on another thread and was advised to look at the XR2 and XLR2 also, hence I am reading the main threads in that forum too.
There's a lot I need to learn before I make the purchase it seems. I dont wanna end up with a lemon

Thanks zorphee, but in another thread I was told that the KTM might not be the best for my needs. I will be using it primarily for transport and maybe an occasional weekend off-roading.
I was recommended that a XR or a XLR would be a choice. So I'm now reading up on the WR2 and the XR2.
I'm a bit worried about the COE as well, things such if its renewable or as how much it will cost me to renew should it expire during my ownership.
Thanks!

Bro its better get your dream bike if not u will regret later.
Maybe u heard lots of things about this bike or that bike.
U never try & experience u will never know..
Example, your dream bike is ktm but u buy a wr or xr.
Then u ride on the road u saw others ride your dream bike & u will be thinking why I never buy that & it will bring till your nightmare until cannot sleep.
I had a friend who used ktm2 egs for transportation EVERYDAY & still working fine & been using that bike for 5 years w/o problem & after that traid in for ktm2 EXC & used for transport again... if you think again if the bike not suitable for transportation why LTA allowed to register it on the road...

Yups agreed with BergKtm... Buy something that you will love. And dont live to regret cos you will end up spending more money.
I love WR/WRF and so I bought it... I never regretted it cos thats what I love. The WR200 is not as powerful as the KTM200 but Ive got bigger balls at offroad trails so Im much much faster than my friends on KTM. Point is, if you love your bike and its something that you want... ITS WORTH IT.
Buy the KTM if you really love it, BUT... do not buy a lemon (bring a seasoned friend along when looking at the bike. Buy from a seller direct or buy from a reputable KTM shop that will guarantee the purchase!) It will cost more but its worth it.

I think i might go for a WR.
And more on a technical side, I was reading some threads in the 'everything yamaha' forum and saw some cases of engines stalling spontaneously or pistons jamming. Cos these are internals that you really cant check when buying right, so how would I protect myself from those.
And right now I dont have any friends who are bikers. Hopefully I can make friends with you guys and maybe seek someone's kind help when the time comes to make the purchase.

How many more years left.
If COE has been renewed, check if it has been renewed for 5 or 10 years. 5 yr COEs are not renewable, and the bike will need to be scrapped once the COE expires.

I see.
Say its 10 year renewable, so so how much would a renewal be (approx)
