A few more tips to avoid Arm Pump and make life easier on the trail.

1. Grip with your knees when you accelerate, that will take the load of your hands.
2. On the first lap, relax, breathe and keep relaxing your grip and opening your hands up - the adrenaline will make you very tense.
3. Look as far ahead as you can. If you look at a Rut or a Stump and think I do not want to hit that and stay focused on it - you will!. This becomes more noticeable as you get tired and lose concentration.
4. As Larry says - The throttle is your best friend - use it lightly to find grip and stop the back wheel from breaking away. Once you are stuck - lots of revs will not get you anywhere - you will just dig a bigger hole!
5. If you get to a difficult section stop as far back as you can. Assess what is the best line, compose yourself and then go 4 it. 5 secs spent choosing the right line can save you 5mins of pushing and lots of energy.
