Gnarly does have a point. If 70 riders care to make the trip across Malaysia to race, imagine the turnout if races are hold here.
But then, you're back to the perennial issue of limited land space and high cost of staging a race here. It's too big a road block to overcome, unless....

Ok we need a hero, anybody knows one?

Thanx woo. Yeah i also think the cost would be the only hindrance. Nway, our local heroes should be the local dirt bike shop boses and smsa. Well, think having a local race here is promising. Stay tune. Only thing left would be a reasonable race fee.

I really don't think having a track in Singapore would make that much of a difference. Seriously, if you wanted to race, you'll travel the distance be it Malaysia or thailand.

I use to drive 5 hours back in the states just to race a 2 moto 15mins race and then return home the same day. Some of us make the trip up to KL Sepang to race motocross for the weekend.

What's the point of talking so much? Anybody that wanted to race one way or another will find races to race.

Damn it, BUS kena Hijacked. Which part of the title of this thread says "Trail bike"? I click here thinking this is a MX race at Larkin thread....

Since we are OFF TOPIC.

Here is my daily rant:
I just DRAGGED my childhood buddy to scuba dive at Tioman for the weekend. On the way back he says "you know why I stop diving? Coz I want to dive in Singapore, not this cross border bullshit....I want to see crystal clear water with rich marine life and big whales and sharks. PLUS I don't want to carry all this gear myself........and I think this 40 mins dive is only worth 20 bucks. Oh yeah, next time, you fukking drive."

i remember last year, something that deter me from trying out the tuas race was the need for race licence. it cost quite a bit for 1 year licence i can't commit myself to attend every race to make the licence worthwhile so i didn't join.

for the 2008 tuas old fart race, there was the option of day licence. i paid $30 for day licence, $32 for registration ($150 per team) and $10 for medical check up. $72 was reasonable. For some reason, now day licence is no longer an option.

there is a mettle games coming up with a supermotard event.
mettlegames.com/

my friend is contemplating on participating for the supermotard event but he need to work out his finance. He told me the race licence is $200 for a year, $100 for the registration plus medical check up. $310 is not a small sum.

as a new blood, we have doubts on our commitment to these events. how can we have more new faces when the first step already require some level of commitment in monetary sense of a year race licence payment.

and look at the events that has many participants, MSSC X-country series, Old fart enduro, 60-70 rider, Larkin MX event, 30-40 riders? sorry if i got the figures wrong, but that's besides the point. is it because these event doesn't require race licence and hence attract more riders.

I am curious if others have the same sentiments as me. would you be deterred by the mandatory 1 year licence? if there was the option of day licence, would you have taken part? maybe for individual race, cost around $140.

OR was there any other reasons that deter you from participating in races? e.g. - racing is too expensive
- feeling inferior about your bike (i heard others saying, "aiyah, how can my XR match up to those KTMs?" for one round of the nusa enduro, a category was created specially for XRs but was dismissed because no one enrolled for that category.)
- afraid to lose
- wife/gf don't allow
- can't afford to get injured etc etc etc....

probably if we understand some of the riders' obstacles or deterrence, maybe something can be worked out.

Thanks for your input. I've travel far for races too. But really it's really not about u or me right? i dont want to have an individualistic mentality on this. picture someone whose on a regular trail bike. cant ride the bike to thailand neither can he afford a van to drive up? forking out a huge some $ for tow of bikes to a far place to race? i mean really how many can really afford that? so is it now, no money then dont race la? i know of alot who actually go all out to race and its something to be proud of. but effectively it makes a whole lot sense to have it in sg to cater to the majority. well, i guess we're on a different frequency here. It's abt building the sport on singapore soil. i really dont know wat's with the negativity here. but hey, isn't this forum a place to share and get everyone to get this sport together? i think my post were very constructive and i would appreciate constructive feedback. thank you. =)

what i meant was sg race fees in future. yeah it is very disappointing that alot of talk is going on but none dont turn up. i do enduros and i help up to built the track and stuff every weekend. cut, chop, bash, tape wadver. but the rm 50 really isn't the issue or the objective. the sport is growing in each discipline. or at least im sure for enduro. and i have a bunch who constantly help and make races happen. but anyhow, the focus is singapore isn't it? guys dont get me wrong, this is a just potential discussion.

yeah, i get what you mean. loads feel the same way too. yea, these are good point and views to create awareness. i mean at this point there are the riders. in need of a place to race in sg(which i think can happen soon). last thing to gek it all together is a good race package. =)

This is a motorcross posting. To play motocross at Larkin. It's ENGLISH. Don't tell your stories here about Singapore scene or what whatever i don't care. It's for Larkin MX. If you wanna do good for this place, just post your name here and place how much you want to fund for the track makeover and pass it on to me personally as i got a Malaysian PR stamped on my head so as i can pass to Abg Zak personally. As for you who go alot to say, see you at this Larkin anytime soon when its ready to race on.

I'm not being negative, I think it's great that your taking the initiative. You don't seem to understand my point.

My reply was not about you or me. It's about racers and people that want to race. It's not about if u have a van or not etc etc.

My point is simple.

You can bring the horse to a river but you can't force it to drink.
