Hi all,

Thought of seeking advice first before I decide what to do...

Situation:

1) Bike easy to start - usually in two or three kicks max with choke on in the mornings.

2) Tensioner changed in Feb '09.

3) Recently, there's this sound coming from the top block and tends to get noisier as the bike warms up. Upon travelling, the sound gets softer before re-appearing again on the next kick-start.

4) There's no white smoke and engine oil change yield no significant decrease in EO levels.

5) Engine is running very well despite the noise.

Question:

1) Thought of changing my timing chain (Do I need to change my tensioner too even though it has only been three months since my last change?)

2) Could it be the rocker arm or cam thingy that's causing the noise?

3) What other possibilities am I missing?

Any inputs are greatly appreciated. Thanks for starters!

bro, since ur tensioner is quite new..juz get ur timing chain changed...shud laz u few long mths down the road...

bring to huphin (jeffry) for a quick diagnose la bro...

sell and buy new one suah......

bro, if your bike has been running fine with no leaks, y must repair anything juz bcozz got abit noise?

thats when ur wrong .. long term of noise will result in BIGGER problem hence deeper hole in pocket

i too seem to have a problem. And seem that there is a leak at the top right side and the noise is exactly the same as what energizer describe. Going to get it check soon. But what can the cost be like? Any idea or quotation? Thanks.

bro, all i can say..

once they open up ur engine, juz expect the unexpected..
the probs can suddenly be ur cams, tappet, rocker arms, gaskets etc wen u tink its only ur timing chain..

juz meksure u get at least $300 ready..

no kidding~

the last tyme wen i open up e top i spend 600 $ on parts only...once u open up better to change wats faulty...but its the best if u get sum1 trustworthy to do...

if ur helmet cushion is loose alr.. then that maybe ur reason bro..

Haha! Eh bro, thanks for accompanying me there man! Problem solved!

At first thought was timing chain, but when open block, timing chain looks still as sweet as hell..

Damage: Rocker arms, worn-out tappets, bolts, all gaskets. total $300.00.

hey bro, tink all xr4 riders will encounter tt small prob, including me.
If timing chain changed within 3 - 6 mths, it shld be ur tensioner. Shldnt be tt ex for tensioner. < $100. Some mod can be done to ease e prob. Will try to tell once i've done it. haa
