hey guys,
think im d first guy here to change ba. just collected my new IU at a cost of $155.80/=. long story as to why i paid that amount. sighz..
anyway, 9v dc DOES NOT WORK! tried already. does not power up at all. supposed to be 12v but i haven try yet. nothing fanciful abt it. only diff is LCD display smaller, cashcard insert direction is magnetic strip facing down, (current ones are facing up), lighter.
those who wanna change their existing IU (fat ones) will not get the new IU. they will be replaced with another fat IU.
All IUs have a 5yr warranty. if faulty with warranty, replace FOC. if outside of warranty, ur own money, under $100. (50plus if i recall correctly). any additions or repairs are chargable. plastic cover, rubber ring, etc. oh, new or replacement IUs will not b given a bracket or mount. have to go bike shop n buy.
for transfers of IU, only if bike is deregistered then you will be able to transfer to another new vehicle at $11plus. same concept as transfer of number plate. IF ur bike is sold second hand, ur new vehicle you have to pay for new IU.
am gonna try to 'modify' it for portability's sake. will keep u guys posted.

actually it can be done. as long as ur vehicle passes through an active gantry, the gantry detects ur IU unit. which is why we have IUs for different vehicles. bikes, cars, vans, lorries (not exceeding 1.5tonnes) are all using same IU. buses, taxis, govt vehicles another IU.
if ur vehicle passes through gantry and no IU detected, camera snaps and they trace you through you vehicle number. that was how i was caught. so possible scenerios when you drive thru gantry:
1) vehicle no IU, got number plate - camera trace u thru vehicle no
2) vehicle no IU, no number plate - dun try
3) vehicle got IU, no cashcard - gantry trace thru IU & vehicle no
4) vehicle got IU, no deuction - gantry trace thru IU & vehicle no
5) vehicle got IU, no number plate - gantry trace thu vehicle no
basically anything they trace u thru ur number plate first den they tally the IU unit tagged to ur vehicle and ask u to bring ur vehicle, ur IU unit and the cashcard involved. i told them bike in workshop cuz accident den they bought the story. fact was my 9v went haywire when i passed thru gantry. 9v used before with no problems. dunno why also.
btw new IU is using a 5A 250V fuse. technically 12/24v rating for battery. have yet to power up my new IU.

Latest update.
Collected IU today. Slim type.
Went to buy 12v dry cell batteries from 2 shops. The smallest one i could find was still big and weighed a lot (>400g). Gave up. I'm not going to strap down a brick to power the IU.
Please let me know who is successful in using a 9V for the slim type IU.
Decided to rewire the bike. Took out seat, took out tank and pulled a cable out to power the IU. Going to put in the connectors next so that i can disconnect and connect the IU whenever.
As for the mounting, forget it. No mounting. Will just strap it to the front fender.

hmmmm guys.. have just tested the NEW IU with 18v. works well. tried it with a 9v also can. but the back light seems quite dim, as if d batt dying lidat.
as to its exact consumption, i dunno. one thing for sure is, 18v powers it up well and it works.

hmmm i got e new iu unit too .. issit the bike cos after inserted e cashcard, the iu will show balance but when riding through there is no balance shown in the display .. my dad's rxz shows balance all e time tho .. unlike mine
yeah and wiring the new iu unit to a 9V batt works definately but i just fear by putting in the bag then might not detect the iu under the gantry or damaged cos the impact in e bag
