Sorry, but please let me hijack this thread for a while.
I'm using ktm side stand, but i notice that the base of the stand is wearing very thin, it's only about a few mm thick now. I wanted to weld an extra bit of metal to the bottom to strengthen the base but I've been told that's not possible because that bit is made of plastic. I can't tell if it's metal or plastic myself.
Anyone got any idea what i can do for my stand? Thanks

the end tip of the side stand is plastic. its suppose to wear off in time so you dont have to replace the whole stand when it becomes shorter. Its removable from the aluminium stand body. spare plastic end is available from ideal.

Max, just change to side stand...trust me. I've used both main and side and found that side is the way to go. Just remember to use stainless steel of steel bolts for the side stand and Not the aluminium ones which comes standard in the Y2K batch.

I just replaced my KTM sidestand. There is a lot of talk on other message boards about how fragile the stock stand is. A couple of tip overs in soft dirt snapped mine off and resulted in a $35 repair.
There are a few after market manufacturers that make stands that are guaranteed not to break, even if you stand up and kick the bike while it's still on the stand. But, for over $100 (not including shipping), I didn't think it was worth it.
Jade, your question about the base is a good one. Brap offroad makes a sidestand base for KTMs that is US$19 and just fits over the current base. The pad is larger and allows you to use your sidestand in soft soil. I probably wouldn't have broken my sidestand if I had had the larger base. The US$19 would have already paid for itself.
I was already considering ordering the base, so let me know if anyone else wants one and I will consolidate the orders.

I changed mine on my KTM200 when I converted to Motard because with the motard wheels it was too high off the ground on the main stand.
Got a 2nd hand stand from Bob for $30.
Had to make a minor modification with a welder to make it work properly though.
